What an incredible day at Pack the Mack! 🎒📚✏️ Thousands of students and families came together today as our community helped prepare local children for a successful school year. Thanks to the support of our community partners, volunteers, and sponsors, up to 15,000 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed, giving students the tools they need to start the school year. Families also enjoyed live entertainment, free haircuts, dental screenings, sports physicals, and access to valuable community resources and services. JULY GOOD TICKET AWARD! 🎊 This month’s Good Ticket honors LVMPD Narcotics Detective Bryan Davila. For more than two years, Davila kept a local family updated on the investigation and legal proceedings against the drug dealer suspected in their daughter’s fentanyl overdose. He kept them connected to the District Attorney’s office and ensured their daughter’s belongings were returned once the case concluded. The family wrote a heartfelt letter to the department thanking Davila for his kindness and compassion. Today, they were at Resorts World to thank him in person! @ResortsWorldLV, in partnership with the @LVMPDFoundation, has provided the Davila with a staycation package, including a resort stay, food and beverage credit, and tickets to a headlining show.

End of Watch: Lieutenant Erik Lloyd July 29, 2020 Lieutenant Erik Lloyd served the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for 29 years, beginning his career as a patrol officer in 1990. He went on to work as a Narcotics Detective, Sergeant, and later Lieutenant in Internal Affairs, the Southern Nevada Counterterrorism Center, and the Force Investigation Team. He was deeply respected not only for his leadership, but also for his compassion. As President of the Injured Officers Police Fund, he worked tirelessly to support the families of fallen officers.Lieutenant Lloyd passed away on July 29, 2020, from complications caused by COVID-19. His legacy of service, dedication, and heart will never be forgotten.

DANGEROUS HEAT CONTINUES! 🚁 Busy Sunday for AIR1 and our @LVMPDSAR Search and Rescue (SAR) team. On Sunday, July 26, AIR1 crews responded to two separate rescue missions involving hikers in Southern Nevada. 📍Event #260700103668# | Frenchman Mountain Just after 12 p.m., AIR1 responded to Frenchman Mountain, where two hikers were suffering from heat exhaustion. Crews from @ClarkCountyFD Station 20 reached the hikers on foot before both were safely hoisted by AIR1, flown to a nearby landing zone, and transferred to waiting ground personnel. 📍Event #260700104455# | Black Mountain Around 5 p.m., AIR1 responded near Black Mountain after a hiker became lost. Personnel from the @HendFireDept responded by ground using a UTV, while Mercy Air also assisted. A Search and Rescue officer was hoisted into the area to assess the hiker before both were safely extracted by AIR1, flown to a nearby landing zone, and transferred to ground personnel. These rescues are another reminder that Southern Nevada's summer heat can quickly become dangerous. Temps between 110 and 120 degrees are in the forecast all week. ☀️ Start your hike early and avoid the hottest part of the day. 💧 Bring more water than you think you'll need. 📱 Tell someone where you're going and when you expect to return. 🥾 Know your limits and turn around before conditions become unsafe. ⚠️ Reconsider hiking outdoors in extreme heat (especially during heat advisories and extreme heat warnings!) 🚨 DRONE PROVIDES EYES OVERHEAD DURING VEHICLE VANDALISM CALL At approximately 9:40 a.m. on June 17, LVMPD Communications received a report of a man damaging a vehicle outside a store near Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard. A remote drone launched from a nearby LVMPD Skyport and quickly arrived overhead, where it captured the suspect striking the vehicle’s windows with a bicycle seat and a brick. The drone pilot provided real-time updates to responding officers, giving them critical information before they reached the scene. While officers were heading to the call, Good Samaritans had intervened and subdued the suspect. David Huerta Salgado, 39, was arrested and booked on multiple felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor charges, including destroying or injuring property valued at $5,000 or more, injuring or tampering with a vehicle, resisting a public officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. This is another example of how LVMPD’s remote drone program provides officers with immediate situational awareness while helping us respond more safely and effectively. Event: LLV260600062399

🎒 PACKING FOR A PURPOSE Every student deserves to begin the school year feeling prepared and ready to succeed. If we can ease some of the stress for students and their families, we are proud to do our part—because we firmly believe an educated community is a safer community. Team members from all 10 LVMPD area commands joined the @LVMPDFoundation, community partners and volunteers at Walmart on North Nellis Boulevard to pack more than 1,200 backpacks. These backpacks will be distributed throughout the valley to some very deserving families. Providing students with the supplies they need is an investment in their success, confidence and growth—and there is no better way to make that happen than by working together as a community and having a little fun along the way! End of Watch: Officer David VanBuskirk July 23, 2013 Officer David VanBuskirk joined LVMPD on October 6, 1999, serving in Patrol and Narcotics before joining the Search and Rescue Section in 2007. A Southern Nevada native, VanBuskirk was a loyal friend, devoted mentor, and true hero. VanBuskirk took part in hundreds of rescues, saving countless lives. On July 22, 2013, during a helicopter rescue on Mount Charleston, he fell to his death after securing a stranded hiker to the hoist cable, his final act saved a life. His courage, selflessness, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. VanBuskirk was 36 years old.

🎖️ Commendation Ceremony | July 22, 2026 🎖️ Today, we had the incredible honor of presenting 44 awards to employees of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department at our commendation ceremony held at LVMPD Headquarters. This event recognizes outstanding service and dedication to our community. Among those honored were various detectives, lieutenants, sergeants, officers, and civilian employees of our department who have performed exemplary services in keeping our community safe. Congratulations to all of our recipients!

The Vegas Justice League Justin Woo and his wife, Lydia Ansel, co-founded the @LVJusticeLeague, a nonprofit that brings together local entrepreneurs and business leaders to fund forensic genetic genealogy testing to help solve cold cases. Since partnering with LVMPD in 2020, and working with @othram, the organization has helped solve 10 cold cases, bringing answers and closure to victims’ families. The City of Las Vegas has proclaimed July 21 as Vegas Justice League Day.

This #FathersDay#, we’re celebrating the dads (and their sons) of LVMPD! For these families, the commitment to service spans generations. From father to son, they share more than a last name; they share a dedication to protecting our community, supporting one another, and carrying on a legacy of service. The only thing stronger than their commitment to the badge might be their ongoing debate about who’s the better officer. REAL-TIME RESULTS! On May 12, a homeowner was out of town when their security cameras alerted them that someone was trying to get inside their Las Vegas home near Desert Inn and Arville. They called Metro. An LVMPD drone launched from a SkyPort and was overhead in seconds, locating the suspect outside the residence. Working together, the drone pilot and dispatcher quickly guided responding officers to the location, leading to an arrest. When every second counts, eyes in the sky can make all the difference. We have flown more than 12,000 drone flights so far in 2026. Today, our drones are arriving on scene before officers more than 70% of the time. That means faster response, better situational awareness, better information for our officers, and ultimately safer outcomes for our community.
