A gas station owner in New Zealand applied for a $100,000 bank overdraft. The bank made a typo and gave him $7 MILLION by mistake. He spent it all in 28 days, fled to China, and triggered an international manhunt. – Hui Gao owned a small gas station in Rotorua, New Zealand with his mother. In April 2009 he applied to Westpac Bank for a $100,000 overdraft to help run the business. – The bank approved it. But when the employee typed in the figure they added two extra zeros by mistake. – Gao woke up the next morning and checked his account. $7 MILLION was sitting there. – He called his girlfriend and told her he was "f***ing rich" and had MILLIONS of dollars. – They did not call the bank. – In less than 28 days the couple withdrew $6.8 MILLION from the account. Transferred it to accounts in Hong Kong and China. – Then Gao fled to Hong Kong. His girlfriend followed days later. They left behind her six year old daughter. – New Zealand police launched an international manhunt. Interpol also got involved. – He was eventually caught. Sentenced to four years and seven months in prison. – His girlfriend got nine months of home detention. – The court ordered her to pay back the money at $60 a week. – At $60 a week it would take her approximately 2,192 years to pay it back. A man applied for a $100,000 bank overdraft. The bank employee added two extra zeros by mistake. He spent $6.8 million in 28 days, fled to China with his girlfriend, and left her six year old daughter behind.

Food for thought. Simple Theme: Buy Scarcity. The time-tested playbook is simple: buy scarcity. Prices rise, capital is deployed, and eventually supply responds. That is how markets work. But this cycle is different. For years, markets were defined by abundance: cheap capital, globalized supply chains, and frictionless digital scale. That regime is ending. Capital has a cost again, supply chains are fragmenting, and real-world constraints are reasserting themselves. What is working now tells you everything. Gold, oil, and memory have all surged on scarcity. Gold saw a bull run that culminated in a parabolic blow-off top, monetary scarcity repriced. Oil followed on supply constraints. Memory has surged on AI-driven bottlenecks and capital intensity. But these trades also carry the seeds of their own reversal. Higher prices invite new supply. Capital flows in. Bottlenecks ease. Not so with Bitcoin. Bitcoin is perfect scarcity. Its supply is fixed. No amount of capital, innovation, or demand can create more of it. It rests on a global monetary consensus that no traditional asset can replicate. The fundamentals have not changed, only investor psychology has. After decades of suppression by the status quo, Bitcoin’s time has come. Psychology remains a major force, and Bitcoin is still widely dismissed. There is an old saying: buy fear, sell greed. That dynamic is visible today. In every technological cycle, psychology leads and lags, but adoption continues to grind forward. Bitcoin and blockchain are innovations that cannot be ignored. It is also not just an asset; it is the backbone of a new financial system where contracts, payments, and ownership move on-chain. The CLARITY Act may accelerate this shift by pulling institutions onto crypto rails, even as Washington risks mistaking regulation for strategy. Meanwhile, China is operationalizing digital assets through Hong Kong, building standards that attract global capital. In a world shifting from abundance to constraint, scarce assets, and perfect scarcity, will dominate. The trade is not just crypto. The trade is scarcity itself. And Bitcoin has perfect scarcity. Think about that for one minute.

ZERO Market Flash July 16, 2026 Why Korea’s Rate Hike Hit AI Memory First The Bank of Korea raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to 2.75% today, its first increase in three and a half years. The decision was not aimed specifically at AI. The central bank cited stronger-than-expected growth, persistent inflation, pressure on the won, and broader financial-stability concerns. South Korea’s semiconductor export and investment boom gave policymakers enough economic strength to tighten. Yet AI memory stocks absorbed the greatest damage. The reason is straightforward: SK hynix and Samsung had become two of the most crowded and leveraged trades in Korea. Single-stock leveraged products tied to those companies expanded rapidly in Korea and Hong Kong, and on some recent trading days accounted for as much as 35% of KOSPI turnover. When rates rose and risk appetite weakened, the most leveraged winners became the first source of liquidity. The KOSPI fell roughly 6.2%–6.4%, while SK hynix dropped about 12% and Samsung nearly 9%. This was not the central bank deliberately “popping the AI bubble.” It was monetary tightening triggering a deleveraging process in a market that had already become structurally fragile. The shock quickly crossed into the United States. SK hynix ADRs, Micron, SanDisk, and Western Digital all came under heavy pressure before the opening bell. The global memory and storage trade is tightly connected through supply chains, capital flows, and investor positioning; forced selling in Seoul was immediately interpreted as a broader warning for AI hardware. Volatility is likely to remain elevated. In the near term, the key question is whether deleveraging has run its course. Over the next several weeks, the more important test will be whether late-July and August earnings confirm that AI data-center demand, memory pricing, and profit growth remain intact. The rate hike was the trigger. Leverage was the amplifier. Fundamentals determine direction. Liquidity determines speed. ⸻ This is not investment advice. Do your own research.
