Crunchyroll CEO Rahul Purini has made the company’s position on AI clear: anime creators can use whatever technology they want, but Crunchyroll will not use AI for subtitles or dubbing. “We’re not using AI in our creative process—whether it’s subtitling or dubbing,” Purini said. He explained that Crunchyroll wants to maintain “creator authenticity,” ensuring anime is delivered to audiences in a way that stays true to the original vision of its creators. He believes subtitles and dubbing are creative work that should remain in human hands.
