- Saturday Wasn't a Schedule - Saturday morning in the 1970s didn't need much. You didn't need reservations. You didn't need a destination. You didn't need a phone full of notifications telling you where everybody else was. You woke up and figured it out. Maybe you heard your parents moving around downstairs. Maybe there was a television on in the living room. Maybe you grabbed something to eat and disappeared outside before anyone could give you a chore. The day belonged to you. You might end up at a friend's house. Then somebody else's house. Then walking somewhere you had never been before. One decision led to another. There was always something happening, even when nothing was planned. Someone would pull an old board game out of a closet. Someone would find a stack of comic books. Someone had a deck of cards. Someone's older brother had a new record. And suddenly an afternoon disappeared. Nobody was documenting it. Nobody was taking pictures every ten minutes. Nobody was worrying about how it looked to everyone else. You were simply there. Present. If you wanted to hear music, you actually had to put the record on. If you wanted to watch a particular television show, you had to know when it was coming on. If you missed it, you missed it. And somehow that made the things you did experience feel more important. There was anticipation. There was waiting. There was the strange excitement of knowing something was happening at 8:00 and watching the clock crawl toward it. Today, we can have almost anything instantly. Back then, you had to wait for things. And maybe that's why we remember them so well. The waiting made the moment matter. A Saturday could last forever when you were a kid. You'd wake up thinking you had an entire lifetime ahead of you. By dinner, you'd already lived three different adventures. Then you'd go to bed exhausted, knowing tomorrow would bring another day. No notifications. No algorithms. No endless scrolling. Just time. And when you're older, you realize something strange. You weren't bored back then. You were free. There's a difference.
