Following his controversial remarks on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the West Bengal Government has withdrawn and annulled the Banga Bibhushan conferred upon Nagendra Ray alias Ananta Maharaj on February 21, 2026, with immediate effect. The Government said subsequent facts and circumstances were serious enough to question the continued retention of the honour, which was found inconsistent with its dignity, prestige and purpose. His name will be removed from the official list of Banga Bibhushan recipients.
