Zhengrong Shi built Suntech into the world's largest solar manufacturer, became China's richest man, and was named a TIME "Hero of the Environment." Then, in 2012, Suntech said bonds it had accepted as collateral — from a fund Shi part-owned — likely never existed. Shi was ousted, Suntech went bankrupt, and he settled investor lawsuits. Chinese media now casts the Jinko deal as his comeback.
