The last 24 hours of the strongest storm on the planet: Super Typhoon Dolphin, now a Category 5 storm, expected to peak Friday with sustained winds of 185 mph and gusts reaching 220 mph. Atmospheric perfection.

A delivery rider mom in Shanghai was caught in the storm with her young child soaked to the skin on Aug 10 as Typhoon Dolphin lashed the city. A supermarket owner in Songjiang dried the boy, cared for him all afternoon, and told the mom to finish her orders first. The baby waited quietly.

China's national observatory on Sunday issued a red alert, the highest level in the country's typhoon warning system, as Typhoon Dolphin approaches. The typhoon is forecast to make landfall along the east coast from Zhoushan in Zhejiang Province to Fuding in Fujian Province, bringing torrential rains, thunderstorms and gale-force winds to multiple regions, including Fujian, Zhejiang and Shanghai, as well as Shandong, Tianjin and Beijing. China's meteorological authority has also upgraded its emergency response for severe meteorological disasters from Level III to Level II.
