According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, twenty-five individuals from Ghana who entered the country on temporary visitor permits for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have submitted requests for asylum.
These requests form part of a total of 175 asylum applications lodged by holders of World Cup visitor visas.
Ghana and China posted the largest figures, each accounting for 25 claims.
Canada granted in excess of 26,000 such visitor visas for the tournament. Authorities noted that every application is examined on its own merits, and the overall number stays modest relative to the volume of visas granted.
