Egypt has declared that it will not permit Ethiopia to construct additional dams along the Blue Nile, according to Water Resources Minister Hani Sewilam.
Cairo opposes any independent initiatives and seeks a formal, enforceable accord governing the operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam together with the exchange of relevant data.
Addis Ababa maintains that no such arrangement is necessary, asserting that the existing dam will neither diminish water volumes nor adversely affect Egypt or Sudan.
