The problem with Hasan Piker is a familiar one. He says highly inflammatory things designed to grab attention — including the claim that America “deserved” 9/11. Then, once the outrage (and the money) rolls in, he tries to walk it back or frame it as just “dumb shit” said on stream. He’s built a lucrative brand on the very system he constantly attacks. He rails against American capitalism while living extremely well off the attention economy it created. What he seems unwilling to accept is that some lines, once crossed, can’t be erased with a later clarification. The 9/11 comment is one of them. You don’t get to casually suggest a nation deserved the murder of nearly 3,000 people and then expect the moral ledger to simply reset. Attention is not the same as truth. And profit is not the same as principle.
