I’m pretty sure the WNBA wants attention at all costs, and nothing garners attention more than drama and violence. Matt Walsh just posted on 𝕏 about the violence in the WNBA. Here’s a representation of his point: “It’s pretty remarkable the level of violence we’ve been seeing in the WNBA. Men’s professional leagues have players of every background and you just don’t see this kind of stuff.” He’s right that it’s something worth noticing. And me posting about him posting about it? That’s marketing 101. Get people talking about your product no matter what it takes. People are talking about the WNBA a lot more than they used to. The league is chasing attention instead of focusing on the game itself. What they’re missing is that putting basketball, fairness, and player safety first would ultimately be the strongest advertising the WNBA could ever do.
