ALERT: Heirlooms were found in a mountain of trash after a woman accidentally threw them out. A woman immediately noticed that the pair of priceless rings she couldn't find had ended up in her apartment complex's dumpster in Brooklyn. She met sanitation workers when they came to pick up the trash cans and explained her situation. City sanitation workers then coordinated the truck to dump the trash at a designated area and search for the lost rings. “Every couple of months, a New Yorker will throw away something that is important to them… we set up what is called a lost valuables search, where in most cases, the resident and one very close friend get 90 minutes to go through the trash together.” Sanitation workers sifted through the trash and located both rings, which were returned to their owner.
