I am who I am because of Ethereum. That's why this hurts. I'm writing this after Belgrade. Same week, Two rooms. ETH Belgrade & Solana Summit. I still love Ethereum. That has to come first, or nothing else I say will land the way I mean it. I am who I am because of Ethereum. That's where it started. ETH Warsaw was my first real Ethereum conference. I felt accepted, Happy. My journy basically began there, telling the stories of founders and projects I met in those rooms. I went to Berlin this year because I wanted to sit with the giga-nerds fighting for the cypherpunk defence of this technology. I am fully behind that mission. That's why this week felt sad as i accepted the fact. The private conversations are the same!!! I've spoken to community members who host events, run local rooms, and keep Ethereum alive outside the timelines. The conversations are depressingly similar. Points of contact get replaced. The new people have no idea what these communities have been doing for years. Support for meetups that took years to build feels like an afterthought. I'm not inventing numbers. I'm saying what it feels like: after years of loyalty, the help looks like Byzantine bureaucracy, not partnership. Ethereum Everywhere was supposed to be a game changer for creators, storytellers, and local communities. I've asked around. I have not heard a single glowing review. My sample is not huge, I'm saying that out loud. But the silence is loud enough. And yes, I'm saying some of this on behalf of people in leadership roles who can't say it in public. The private conversations keep looping. The frustration is the same. This is not a Belgrade revelation. I've been watching it event after event. ETH Warsaw. Bratislava. Romania, ETH Bucharest. Local communities doing the work. Ethereum not showing up for them the way it should. What I actually saw in Belgrade Both events were great. I'm not going to pretend otherwise. But you could see the difference in support. Solana backed the Solana Summit in Belgrade. Hard. Main account. Events account. Livestreams. Presence. Energy. Ethereum did not back the Ethereum communities that have been running events with the same seriousness. That is the point!!!! I'm not here to prop Solana up as the new religion. I've been around that ecosystem for a while now. In Berlin I won bounties and had great engagement on my articles and content. I've felt the difference over time, not just in one room. And ever since my first solo hackathon with Superteam Poland, I've watched them cultivate communities in a way that is actually fun. City to city, People to people. Not another panel about the same talking points. I used to take the piss out of Solana back in the FTX days. I didn't think much of it, and a lot of people didn't. You still have to give props to what they built and how they persevered. That is where the difference shows. Solana livestreams talks on the main accounts and the events accounts. They run content bounties that force you to think. You can't just post slop. Someone is paying for stories, activation, and local energy. There is an incentive to create. On Ethereum, it feels like there is no real competition to promote it. So why would the next generation of storytellers fight for that mindshare? Then Solana opens University Ambassadors: bring Solana to your campus, help classmates ship, build a community. Two undergrads per campus and a direct relationship with the Foundation. Training, Funding, A peer network that will win. I took screenshots that said more than another think piece ever could (QT bellow and you can see how many peopel agree in the comments). Solana's main account promoting Superteam Balkan. Solana Events livestreaming the Serbia summit to thousands of live viewers. And in the same window, Ethereum Foundation talking about society incubators and pop-up villages. Just a different instinct, One is activating the room and One is abstracting the room. I became a big Solana nerd over the last year or so. Not because I stopped loving Ethereum. Because one ecosystem keeps showing up for its people. What Mert said in Belgrade I wrote up the fireside with Mert from Solana Summit Serbia. He was blunt about the institutional critique he accepts as valid: Solana still sits behind Ethereum there. Institutions care about history and prominence. Nobody got fired for buying IBM. That is the Ethereum advantage. First-mover. Lower perceived risk. The serious money can still justify parking there. But he also said the quieter thing that stuck with me: Ethereum is bigger, but Solana has taken the mantle of "we want to help you win." That is the cultural war. Institutions can keep parking on Ethereum while the people who make Ethereum feel alive quietly leave. That is the failure mode I'm scared of. The community & stories are the infrastructure!!!! Some people will read this and think I'm just a random guy. Yeah!!! I am. And a lot of people who create content have given us a bad rep beacuse we also allow them to persist (whole different topic) But great technologies come and go. If nobody hears their stories, they get forgotten. The people meant to tell the next stories, onboard normal humans, and keep local communities breathing need a place that actually supports them. If they cannot support themselves inside Ethereum, they will do it somewhere else. Not because they hate Ethereum. Because rent is real. Then Lou leaves the Ethereum Foundation to become "the filmmaker in tech," writing that the world needs better stories about technology. I root for Lou!!!. That kind of work is what future generations will learn from. But if Ethereum lets storytellers walk while another ecosystem pays people to tell stories, do not act surprised when mindshare follows the people who can afford to keep creating. I've watched Ethereum communities stagnate. Same people. Same talking points. Nothing changes. Some have collapsed. Some are rebranding into AI, hosting hackathons for Anthropic, Cursor, OpenAI. If Ethereum doesn't treat community as infrastructure, those people will build infrastructure somewhere else. Wake the fuck up!! I don't think Ethereum is going to die. I think there is a problem inside the Foundation, or inside Ethereum itself, that needs to be addressed. People are already saying it in private. And you can see great minds leaving. The cypherpunk mission is still there. The vision is still there. The disconnect is between vision and execution. I love Ethereum. But Sol is winning the culture and i'm here for it! And I'm done pretending loyalty is a salary. Why should I keep supporting something I cannot support myself with? If you are higher up in Ethereum and somehow reading this: wake the fuck up. You're doing a bad job with the communities that built this thing with you. The private conversations are already saying it. I'm just saying it in public. I hope this reaches someone who can still change it. Because if nothing changes, the people who built the rooms will stop pretending.
