EIP-8198 (quick slots) wants to start cutting that to 10, and rebuild the plumbing so block time can keep falling later without rewriting the chain from scratch every upgrade. why that matters if you are not a core dev: between blocks the real world keeps moving. your swap quote ages. LPs get picked off. arbs need fatter spreads because they sit on 12 seconds of price risk. tokenized stocks wait on a signed quote while the underlying keeps trading. every second of dead air shows up as worse UX or wider spreads. so shorter blocks are not a vibe. they are fresher state, tighter markets and less "please wait" cosplay on mainnet. what i liked: they are not pretending l1 has to win a speedrun against every other chain. the pitch is settlement-first ethereum that still gets faster.
