Welcome to Guadalajara, Mexico. Just kidding. This is Chicago, Illinois, celebrating Mexican Independence Day like it is another country’s capital. The 55th annual Little Village parade rolled down 26th Street on September 13, a route the city itself markets to about 400,000 people. Mexican Independence Day falls on September 16. Too many of these crowds have refused to assimilate, and plenty look like they are here illegally. A year ago, Operation Midway Blitz started on September 8, 2025, and put roughly 3,800 to 4,000 people into Chicago-area ICE detention during the main surge. DHS claimed more than 4,500. Then the tempo collapsed after mid-November, and Markwayne Mullin has never brought those Midway Blitz levels back. He is terrified to do it ahead of the midterms. Never mind that Illinois alone was estimated at about 550,000 illegal aliens in 2023, with Cook County around 369,000. Chicago is not short on targets. It is short on a DHS secretary willing to finish the job.
