🇺🇸 The draft isn’t coming back tomorrow, but the machinery got a major upgrade. On July 22 the Selective Service System put out a formal request for contractors to build a full computer simulation of large-scale mobilization. They’re modeling every step: registration, lottery selection, notification, delivery to MEPS stations, medical classification, and even the alternative service track for conscientious objectors. The goal is to test how fast the system could actually move people under surge conditions and where it would bottleneck. At the same time, a law already signed takes effect December 19. From that date every eligible man aged 18–26 will be automatically registered using federal data the government already holds. No more self-reporting, the names get pulled out FOR them. These are two different moves: One is a readiness exercise, and the other is administrative automation. Neither is a draft, but turning registration into actual conscription still requires a separate act of Congress and a presidential order, the same high bar that has kept the all-volunteer force in place since 1973.
