🇩🇪🇮🇱 Israel Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Chikli gave a shout-out today to the western German state of Hesse. “Denying Israel’s right to exist is not legitimate criticism. It is one of today’s most prevalent forms of antisemitism: hatred of Jews disguised as opposition to Zionism. I commend Minister-President Boris Rhein and the State of Hesse for their leadership in advancing legislation to confront this threat. I hope the Bundestag will enact this proposal into law, giving concrete expression to Germany’s commitment to Israel’s right to exist and the safety of Jews.” The legislation seeks to criminalize public denial of Israel's right to exist or to call for its destruction. It comes as Germany has seen an uptick in anti-Israel demonstrations and antisemitic rhetoric. But regardless of what’s written on protest signs… It’s the politicians putting words into law.
