He spent 60+ years proving that patience may be the greatest competitive advantage in business. Today, at 96, he officially steps down as the company’s Chairman. The numbers behind his run are almost unfathomable: Berkshire shares have returned more than 6,100,000% since 1965, while Buffett turned what was once a struggling textile company into an empire worth roughly $1.1 trillion today. Berkshire also became the first U.S. company outside of tech to cross a $1 trillion valuation. And maybe the most Buffett part of the whole thing is how he’s leaving: quietly, with the succession plan already in place.
