Thousands of conversations shared through Claudeās āShareā feature were recently found to be indexed by Google, making them searchable by anyone instead of only being accessible through the shared link.
The issue does not affect private Claude conversations. It only affects chats that users intentionally shared using a public link.
Researchers found shared conversations containing sensitive information, including API keys, crypto wallet details, resumes with names, addresses, and phone numbers, internal company documents, legal discussions, and other personal data.
Because the shared pages didnāt include a noindex tag, search engines were able to crawl and list some of them in search results.
Anthropic has since updated the feature to prevent new shared chats from being indexed and is working to remove previously indexed pages from search engines.
If youāve ever used Claudeās Share feature, itās a good idea to review your shared chats.
