Aid isn't political
People are people
Asmaa Abdelhadi Masoud is a 23-year-old single woman from Gaza who lives with her elderly mother in a relative’s house, where they pay no rent. Since the genocide escalated, they have been displaced nine times, most recently from areas reclassified as dangerous red zones, forcing them to prepare for another move despite lacking the funds to cover the expensive fees required for safer passage. Asmaa's mother suffers from diabetes and severe joint pain, making mobility and daily care difficult, while Asmaa herself was injured in an airstrike that struck their neighbors. Earlier in the genocide, she lost her father and her brother to an Israeli airstrikes. Unable to afford university fees, she had to pause her studies in 2023 and now prioritizes securing food, water, medicine, and reliable shelter for both herself and her mother amid ongoing hardship and uncertainty.
