This is what never giving up looks like. The first Falcon 1 launch failed in 2006. The second launch failed in 2007. The third launch failed in 2008. And by that third one, SpaceX was running out of chances and $. The fourth Falcon 1 launch was basically the last $ money they had for the rocket and if that flight failed too, in Elon's own words, “that would have been it for SpaceX.” Think about that... years of work, millions of $ dollars, rocket after rocket ending up in pieces. Tesla was also fighting to survive during that same brutal period. 99.999% of people would have walked away. I probably would have too, tbh... Your family and friends would tell you to stop. People would tell you the idea is clearly not working. At some point, quitting starts sounding like the “smart” thing to do. Elon kept going. On September 28, 2008, less than two months after the third failure, Falcon 1 launched for the fourth time. And this time it reached orbit. It became the first privately developed liquid-fueled rocket to reach Earth orbit. One flight changed everything. NASA had already been helping fund SpaceX’s commercial cargo development, but just a few months after that Falcon 1 success, NASA awarded SpaceX a $1.6 billion contract for 12 cargo missions to the International Space Station. Then came Falcon 9. Then Dragon. Then landing an orbital-class booster. Then reusing it. Then Starlink. And now Starship. For all of these things, people said it was impossible... That’s one of the biggest reasons I never gave up on Elon. And it’s something I try to teach my kids. There’s no shame in failing when you’re trying to do something hard. You can fall short. You can get it wrong. You can watch years of work literally explode in front of you. But as long as you get back up, learn from it, and keep moving forward, the story is never over. The only failure you can’t learn from is the one that makes you quit. Never give up on yourself.
