Four arrested over suspected trafficking of Chinese student towards Myanmar Four Thai men were arrested after allegedly abducting a 29-year-old Chinese woman from a Bangkok hotel and attempting to take her to Mae Sot, near the Myanmar border. The woman was travelling to Singapore to study for a master’s degree when a Chinese acquaintance living there persuaded her to visit Thailand. A driver collected her from the hotel before picking up three other men, who allegedly seized her phone, tied her hands and assaulted her. The car reportedly passed four checkpoints before officers in Kamphaeng Phet noticed the woman calling for help. The driver sped away, but she escaped from the moving vehicle and sought assistance at a nearby beauty salon. Police shot out one of the car’s tyres and arrested Somkiat, 41, and Kittiporn, 24. Two other suspects, Suchat, 41, and Kittisak, 22, were subsequently found hiding at a temple. Kittiporn told police that Somkiat had hired him for 10,000 baht to drive the woman from Bangkok to Mae Sot. Kamphaeng Phet police chief Pol Col Somkasem Charak said the case appeared linked to a human trafficking network because the suspects had coordinated efforts to lure the woman to Thailand and transport her towards a neighbouring country.
