All of us had that one Muslim classmate or senior in college who took off her Burqa/Hijab the moment she entered the college campus and put it back on while leaving for home
Today, while traveling by metro, I saw two Muslim girls taking off their black burqas inside the station and putting them in their bags.
Later, by chance, we sat together on the metro and started talking. During the conversation, I asked, If you were going to take off the burqa anyway, why did you wear it?
They said - Our families don’t allow us to go outside without it. We don’t like wearing it, but we have to because we fear our families, society, and relatives.
It made me think.
Rahul Gandhi often says that the Manusmriti denies women rights and freedom. But these girls’ families and society don’t follow the Manusmriti.
So, who took away their freedom? 🙂
