A bottle of Coca-Cola syrup from the SIBES pharmacy (early 20th Century). The syrup was initially marketed as a medicinal tonic intended to cure various ailments. The syrup was initially sold at Jacobs' Pharmacy for 5 cents a glass as a soda fountain drink, mixed with carbonated water..... In 1886, Atlanta pharmacist John Pemberton created Coca-Cola syrup as a medicinal tonic, originally containing coca leaves and kola nuts, which are the source of the name "Coca-Cola". Pemberton's original formula was created as a medicinal tonic to relieve pain, boost energy, and elevate mood.  By 1891, Asa Candler acquired the formula, forming the Coca-Cola Company and expanding its distribution through soda fountains, where it mixed with carbonated water for a refreshing drink. The Coca-Cola Company was incorporated in 1892 by Asa Griggs Candler, who had purchased the formula and brand. The cocaine was removed from the formula around 1903. McDonald’s began serving Coca-Cola in 1950s, sourcing the iconic syrup from the Coca-Cola Company to maintain consistent flavor across its outlets. This partnership, formalized in the 1960s, standardized the beverage’s preparation using proprietary dispensers, making Coke a staple alongside Big Macs and fries worldwide. #archaeohistories#
