Carbon fibre has approximately 5 times the specific strength of structural steel - it is stronger per kilogram by a wide margin - but costs roughly 20 to 50 times more per kilogram, which is why steel still builds bridges and carbon fibre mostly builds racing cars and aircraft.
The engineering gap between 'demonstrably better' and 'economically deployable' is almost always a manufacturing problem, not a materials problem.
