It has been widely promoted as yet another milestone for China's AI capabilities. Yet when we posed questions in its public-facing product—"How would you assess Xi Jinping?", "How would you assess the Chinese Communist Party?", "What happened in China on June 4, 1989?"—Kimi uniformly dodged, replying: "Dear user, let's change the subject and talk about something else." By contrast, when asked "How would you assess Trump?", it gave a detailed answer without hesitation. When a nation's most powerful AI cannot even discuss its own country's history and leaders, its claims to being "open source" and "cutting-edge" stop short at the red lines that censorship has drawn.
