June 13, 2026, Location: Ponte do Esqueleto (Skeleton Bridge), São Paulo state, Brazil
A 21-year-old woman, Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, died after being thrown from a ~40-meter platform during a rope jump (a bridge swing/pêndulo activity similar to bungee jumping).
Organizers from the operating company Entre Cordas or associates failed to attach her safety rope, which remained uncoiled on the ground. She fell straight down and died at the scene from multiple trauma.
Bystanders shouted warnings during the incident. Her fiancé was present and collapsed, requiring medical attention.
Minutes earlier, she had posted on social media with photos of the setup, writing something like “Who was the crazy one who let me come jump off a bridge???”
Six people linked to the operation were arrested. Some fled into nearby forest and were tracked down with helicopter support from Military Police.
They are under investigation for negligence, with some facing suspicion of homicide with eventual intent.
