SpaceX foundry casting Raptor engine manifold out of Inconel โค๏ธโ๐ฅ
Inconel is a family of nickel-chromium superalloys (high Ni + Cr, plus Fe, Mo, Nb, etc.).
It stays strong and resists oxidation/corrosion at extreme temperatures and pressures. Far better than steel or aluminum.
SpaceX casts its improved proprietary versions in an in-house foundry for Raptor engine manifolds and other sections.
These handle the engineโs brutal oxygen-rich preburner/turbopump environment at extreme pressure and temperature (>800atm)
