BREAKING: Germany confirmed the EU will discuss Tesla FSD approval in October. State Secretary Christian Hirte wrote to a German MP that "a possible EU-wide recognition of the exemption is expected to be discussed in October 2026 in the Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles." Germany's motor authority is evaluating the Dutch RDW exemption and is in talks with RDW and Tesla over the speed-limit issue. The letter noted the system can feel like autonomous driving while "responsibility for vehicle control remains fully with the driver." Full English translation: "The Federal Government is aware that the Dutch approval authority RDW has issued an exemption for the Tesla system 'Full Self-Driving (Supervised).' The documents are currently being evaluated by the Federal Motor Transport Authority. The Federal Motor Transport Authority is also in exchange with RDW and Tesla to clarify Germany's position on the system-induced exceeding of permitted maximum speeds. When using the system, the impression of autonomous driving may arise, although responsibility for vehicle control remains fully with the driver.
