Spoken like someone who wasn’t here past cycles, never heard of FTX, Binance, Bybit leaderboards + ref links, doesn’t know the entire NFT cycle happened on Opensea where you saw exactly who held what, saw pfps and names in the transaction activity tab and saw exactly how much everyone was making
People are moving their personal lives back to “dark social” aka private channels, away from ads and algorithms
Average IG users see feeds as being for entertainment not for personal life. IG/Snap stories are now the primary form of public posting because they’re more private, less affected by algorithms, less curated and less performative (which is for creators), more spontaneous, more authentic feeling. Plus you can see who watches which acts as a social interaction. Theres also an aspect that IG became competitive and when the wealthiest hottest people in the world curate the perfect feeds, the only way to win becomes to not play
Social media for personal life is now back private chats with people you know or communities you like. IG group chats, text chats, Snapchat, discords
This is a reasonable reaction to algorithmic internet, AI sloppification of content and dead internet theory, and will likely continue to accelerate as a trend. Social media will become increasingly gated and fragmented because feeds are controlled by algorithms and the creators who cater to them and are thereby shaped by them
Did digital detox last month with my girl. 3 weeks of zero short form video/video games/entertainment for 3 weeks and we both had withdrawals almost the entire break
Extreme fatigue starting from waking until night, slept early every night and got 7-8 hours (usual 5-7), still exhausted next day and would sleep early again on repeat. Had trouble focusing my eyes which I learned is regulated somewhat by dopamine. Brain fog and headaches. It lasted so long without reducing intensity that I started doing research on whether something else was wrong with me coincidently at the same time. Symptoms didn’t subside until 3rd week
Being able to scroll and feel zero rage from ragebait, fomo or envy from wins/flexes of others, disgust with stupidity, is the correct way to engage with social media
For me, getting married flipped this switch. After my time off with the wife I now scroll and feel zero negative emotions. Only interest, amusement or lack of either. Married life is ascended. Hopefully it doesn’t wear off
