Visegrád 24(@visegrad24):It’s worth remembering that the EU’s Migrant Pact came into force on June 12 2026 It means that when there’s a sudden big influx of illegal migrants arriving in a country (Spain), that country can use the EU’s Solidarity Mechanism. It obliges other EU states taking in quota migrants from that country (to relieve pressure) or having to pay tens of thousands euros for every quota migrant assigned to them that they refused take in. Under the EU’s Migrant Pact (which wasn’t passed in a unanimous vote but through qualified majority voting) other EU member states might be forced to take some of the thousands of illegal migrants storming Ceuta and Melilla today, or they might be forced to pay for them.
