New research from Micron and @Meta explores LPDDR5X performance in large-scale data center workloads using Meta’s open-source DCPerf benchmark suite.​ The results challenge conventional thinking, showing how low-power memory can help balance performance, capacity and energy efficiency across both AI and general-purpose workloads. CXMT says its fifth-generation DRAM platform is now in mass production, along with two 24Gb LPDDR5X products built on it. The company says the platform has an 11.95nm half-pitch in the memory array’s active area, uses quadruple patterning, and has capacitors with a 45-to-1 aspect ratio. Analysts who initiated coverage of CXMT in late August had that generation, which they pegged at roughly 15nm class, going into mass production in H2 2028. They also had CXMT about two generations behind Samsung and Micron, with restricted EUV access as the main brake. Node class and array half-pitch are measured differently, so the 11.95nm figure does not directly map to the analysts’ 15nm classification. Their supply model counts about 300,000 wafers a month in 2026 and roughly 100,000 more each year after that. CXMT says the new platform gets more than 50% more gross die out of the same wafer at an 8Gb basis, its own figure, which would lift bit output without adding wafer starts.

Samsung just became the first to validate LPDDR6 on a Snapdragon. The 16GB chip hit 10.7Gbps on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, with power efficiency up 21% over LPDDR5X. Samsung says sample supply and quality validation are done and it's ready to ship on customer schedules. Meanwhile China's CXMT announced LPDDR6 in mass production earlier this month at 12.8Gbps, faster than the 10.7Gbps baseline, and Xiaomi's 18 Fold with its own XRING O3 will be the first platform to use it. China’s CXMT just started mass production of its 5th-gen DRAM packing more memory onto each chip while getting at least 50% more dies from every wafer. It also launched 24Gb LPDDR5X with 50% more capacity as China keeps pushing to reduce its reliance on foreign memory tech.
