Coinbase's data handlers took BRIBES to sell customer data.
In December 2025, the Brooklyn District Attorney's office charged a 23 year old for running a $16 MILLION crypto phishing scam.
Unlike regular phishing scams, this one allegedly ran on insider data theft.
The victims who fell for this scam may have had their data handed to those with bad intentions by Coinbase's data handlers, who took bribes to steal it.
This info contained historical balances, addresses, contact details, and a bunch of sensitive info.
The attackers then tried to extort Coinbase for $20M to keep it quiet.
Coinbase said no and put up a $20M bounty on them instead.
Nothing is truly safe, insane tbh.
