1776 Live(@250YearsAgoLive):Newspapers report that many of the Hessians coming to America to fight on behalf of the Crown are angered at false promises by the British who hired them: “..they expected America was already conquered, and that they were only to come over and settle on our lands, for which reason they had brought their churns, ploughs, and being deceived, they have refused fighting, upon which account General Howe has shot one, hung five or six, and flogged many.”
