Today, one U.S. dollar crossed 2,000,000 Iranian rials. Read that number again. For the regime, it is an exchange rate. For ordinary Iranians, it means a salary worth less, food more expensive, medicine harder to afford, and another piece of their future disappearing. Iran is one of the richest countries in the world in oil and gas. Iranians should not be poor. At a pro-regime rally in Iran, they hanged an effigy of President Trump in a suit, put a noose around its neck, and proudly displayed it in public. The Islamic Republic has repeatedly threatened American officials and pursued plots against people on U.S. soil. When this regime tells you what it wants to do, take it seriously.

Majid, I am sorry that I knew nothing about you before they hanged you. Forgive us. Majid, you have a family. You are someone’s son. Someone’s brother. Someone loved you, waited for you, worried about you. And yet we know almost nothing about you. This is Majid Adineh, a protester from the January uprising whom the Islamic Republic hanged on Sunday morning. There was not even a single photograph of him publicly available before his execution. This image is taken from a forced-confession video released by Mizan, the judiciary’s own media outlet. That is how brutally the regime silenced your family. Most of us never even saw his face or knew his name until after he was hanged. The authorities accused him of carrying a weapon. They did not even accuse him of killing anyone. Yet they executed him. They have put Trump and Netanyahu in coffins, portraying them as dead bodies and dragging the coffins through the streets. These two women are Basij supporters taking part in a government-organized rally in Iran. They cheer and celebrate the public execution of young protesters, yet they arrest women for showing their hair, dancing in the streets, or even wearing a swimsuit at the beach. This is the morality of the Islamic Republic: celebrate death, criminalize life.

BREAKING: Look at how many morality police the Islamic Republic has sent to the only one beach in Iran to force women to cover their body. Women in Iran can be punished for going to the beach in ordinary swimwear. The regime expects them to cover their whole bodies even when they go into the water. The regime spends enormous resources policing women’s hair and bodies while ordinary Iranians struggle to make ends meet. This is what the Islamic Republic fears: women living normal lives. But Iranian women are mocking these absurd laws every single day when they go out.

To those who say "it's her choice" I used to say the same thing about my own Hijab. I was covered head to toe. Even on the beach. Even with my male relatives. And when people challenged me, I said: this is my choice. You know why? Because the other option was burning in hell, hung by my hair for eternity. That's what they taught me since childhood. Yes, let me repeat it for you to just understand about our version of “freedom of choice.” I grew up in an Islamist culture that gave me two options. Cover yourself and go to heaven. Or don't cover, and be hanged by your hair and burned in hell. Like when someone puts a gun to your head and says "you can go left or right", technically, yes, that's a choice. I picked heaven. I called it freedom. And I believed it, because that's what happens when fear is all you've ever known. And if you think I shouldn't be telling you my story, I don't care.
