I am sick of bickering over who benefits from American startups. I’m probably close to a centrist figure in this debate. I have invested in flyover state white boys & I am a libertarian with right leaning sympathies (save for big gov cultural statists). We ALL benefit from the extreme successes that come from breakthroughs in the “non correlated returns” category of investing. Americans benefit first because typically they are our companies. There is no second choice to America as a market in almost every industry (save crypto which I blame entirely on Biden for his idiotic choke point nonsense and we should fix this no matter what the big banks say) It’s impossible to capture all the surplus from that benefit. That’s where I’m annoyed at the left most. They ignore this simple fact. But equally I’m irked by the right saying we can only invest in Americans & hire Americans. That’s stupidity. There aren’t that many of us for one thing. Though I wish we had more Americans. Have some babies. I would if I could. Ask yourself if you want to be the richest most powerful nation on earth? Yes? Me too! So we must continue to produce surpluses and have a positive sum outlook that presumes new markets create new opportunities. We have gone to space so don’t give me guff about the carry capacity of the planet. Mine the moon. Go to Mars. Market economies without gummed up regulatory capture & stupid cartel monopolies (looking at you American Medical Association) simply do better. Some of the biggest successes we’ve had as a nation have come from receiving & nurturing the talents other countries abuse with their cartels, oligarchs & monopolies. Shoot we actively stole other countries best talent in the wake of some wars. I think this is a good thing. We fought communism for decades & won over the world in that effort. We should continue to do so. Why? Because that means more tax revenue, more jobs, new market opportunities, and broader horizons for our children. And yes those are benefits for Americans first. Where do you think the taxes go? If a few other allies and nationalities choose to join us in that effort we should rejoice. Our great experiment has been ongoing for 250 years. I’d like it to continue for another 250 years. But it won’t if we act like shitty zero sum defeatists. I wrote this in one go so excuse typos and blather.
