Bitcoin Hard Fork: eCash Alpha Is Live
Bitcoin's biggest limitation has always been change itself.Â
New functionality means years of soft fork debate, while the L1 stays intentionally frozen to protect the monetary base. Drivechains (BIP 300/301) solve this by letting developers build sidechains pegged to BTC, independent of L1. If a sidechain succeeds, Bitcoin gains new utility and fee revenue. If it fails, L1 is untouched.
eCash is the first real network built on this model, and today, Alpha goes live.
This is the first of three stages leading to full launch on October 31, 2026:
- Alpha: ~Aug 23, 2026 (Block 963,648)
- Beta: ~Sept 20, 2026 (Block 967,680)
- Full Release: ~Oct 31, 2026 (Block 973,728)
What you can do today:
With the launch of Alpha, the eCash network activates and everyday users can actively acquire, use, and burn pECX for real ECX. If you're holding BTC in a wallet you control, you're eligible to acquire pECX today.
Download the software and claim your pECX here:
The eCash mobile app for iOS and Android is coming soon. Stay tuned.
How the math works:
pECX isn't 1:1 with real ECX. To convert it to real ECX, you burn it in batches of at least 1,000:
đ 1,000 pECX â 10 real ECX
pECX is a rehearsal asset, not a discounted pre-purchase of ECX. Its value comes entirely from the fixed burn rate above, not from holding it.
The burn window for the Alpha stage closes September 19, 2026. The rate gets better in Beta (1,000 pECX â 20 ECX), so there's no rush to burn early, but don't sit on it past the deadline.
Full, permanent ECX will launch around October 31 at block 973,728. The pECX tokens are in addition, not instead of the original 1:1 airdrop. Every BTC holder still gets ECX 1:1 at full launch on October 31 regardless. Burning pECX now is a bonus on top of that, extra ECX for showing up early.
Get familiar with the mechanics now - the more pECX you accumulate, the more real ECX you can claim when you burn it.
