New IRA in tatters after bomb find sparks hunt for informer inside the ranks, as suspicion falls on its Derry unit
I know @mclaren_linzi - she is a decent person who I brought into the UUP. I’m sorry it didn’t work out but this doesn’t stop her from being a decent person even if we disagree. Unionism should examine why we are losing decent people, like Linzi, instead of making more lundies.

We’ve been here before. A bit of sabre rattling, UKG flap and fill the holes, everyone happy again till next time. Totally unsustainable. In this case it’s SF failure to deliver on their promises despite having 5 ministers in the executive.

"This is cynical, but could be electorally effective. When Sinn Féin last collapsed Stormont, it was handsomely rewarded by nationalist voters. But there is a risk that this is simply too transparent..." ✍️ @SJAMcBride

Royal Irish Regiment soldier, #Corporal# #TrelfordWithers# was shot dead by the Provisional IRA #PIRA# on 8th August 1994, while working at his butcher's shop in #Crossgar# #CountyDown# Telford was a professional soldier who was in the #UDR# Ulster Defence Regiment/#RIR# Royal Irish Regiment ☘️🇬🇧. I am nearly sure he was the last #British# soldier to be shot dead in #Ulster# just weeks before the #PIRA# called their "Cease-Fire." Cpl Telford Withers, 3rd Battalion, ROYAL IRISH, 8th August, 1994. Corporal Withers was the 6th #RoyalIrish# ☘️ soldier killed. Shot by the #PIRA# as he worked in his butcher's shop in Downpatrick Street, Crossgar. He was hit twice by a #gunman# who fired five rounds. A nurse in the shop tried to resuscitate him, but he died a few minutes later. His wife, who was fighting cancer, had gone to visit their eldest daughter in Scotland that day and saw a television report on the shooting. She telephoned the shop where the call was answered by a policeman who broke the news. Trelford was killed 23 days before the PIRA announced a 'complete cessation of military operations' and was the last member of the security forces to be killed by the IRA before the 1994 ceasefire. Mrs Withers lost her battle with cancer two years later. His daughter joined the Regiment after her father's killing. He was 46 years old, off duty, and married at the time of his death. #Corporal# #ClaireWithers—whose# father Trelford Withers, who was a part-time Royal Irish Regiment soldier shot dead in 1994—was presented with the #ConspicuousGallantryCross# (#CGC#) by #QueenElizabeth# II on the 6th October, 2006, at the Balmoral Showgrounds in #Belfast#. Details of the AwardRecipient: Corporal Claire Withers Father: #TrelfordWithers#, a shopkeeper and Royal Irish Regiment soldier killed in Crossgar, County Down. Ann Travers is a friend. She lives with the grief of her murdered sister Mary every day. There is no closure, no relief. The woman convicted of her part in that murder, Mary McArdle (who I also knew), has been begged for years to meet with @AnnTravers6 the Travers family or legacy bodies to give them details about that day. Ann wants peace and it isn't obtainable, because Mary won't provide it. Mary McArdle is entitled to get on with life, but Catherine Connolly has a responsibility to society - and to victims - not to use her office to traumstise people. Due diligence? Her visit to the Falls Women's Centre was ill-judged. The photo of her beaming with Mary McArdle was stupid and causes great hurt. On a separate note, Catherine Connolly and her team have been contacted by various media outlets since yesterday. They have ignored the contact. The Áras is part of a democracy, not a Trumpian dictatorship. It is utter contempt for the notion of a democratic Republic to not respond to press queries. Sort this mess out @PresidentIRL .

I'm so upset this morning. Our president, Catherine Connolly, standing grinning beside Mary McArdle who was the only person convicted for the murder of my 23 year old sister Mary as she walked home from mass in 1984. Some womens centre, who don’t care about women.

I don’t agree with @AlexKane221b but I know I can do that respectfully Border poll isn’t inevitable, nothing is It is unavoidable because attitudes change If British & Irish are working out detail in isolation it’ll fail Wanting a UI is a fair aspiration, but so is wanting a UK

Cllr @KLEvans89 has been bullied & isolated over a number of years. This included disparaging comments about being a single, hard working, mum. I raised the appalling treatment of Kate in my resignation letter. The ‘tramp’ comment was after she left the party.
