Providing an interface that every employee can configure to be their own has empowered everyone to do more with AI at Block We're experimenting a lot with Berd and there's a lot of good stuff we'll bring to Buzz Try it out!

Today we're open sourcing Berd, a beautiful desktop app for working with AI agents. And one that isn't afraid to have a personality. We had capable models and harnesses everywhere, but no environment around them that we actually loved opening every day. So a small team built one for ourselves, and it's scaled to something a huge portion of Block now uses. Especially the non-engineers who want to build things. The part I'm proudest of is how it was built. Design and engineering as one team. Designers in the code and engineers in the design decisions. Everyone owning what they're working on; everyone moving together like it was choreographed...and really fast. In a world where anyone can build anything now, what makes something worth opening every day is the care inside it. Berd is for people who want to step outside the norm a little. Who want their solo workspace to feel fun, and who want AI to feel less scary and confusing. Model-agnostic, harness-agnostic, and built for you to shape your own AI world. From us, to you.

We often build the tools we need ourselves. Berd is the desktop application our teams use to work with AI agents across projects, skills, tools, and models. Today, we’re making it open source and sharing what we’ve learned. Meet Berd, AI with character:

When an AI agent acts on your behalf, it shouldn't become you. Think of a pizza delivery driver, where they get just enough information to complete the delivery to your address, not sign you up for cat fact mailers. Our engineering team published a deep dive on what we built to solve this:

We built an internal AI system called Builderbot. It coordinates agents across our entire codebase. Engineers tag it in Slack, and it researches, plans, and ships. The story so far: - 200,000 operations per day. - 1,500 pull requests merged per week. - 15% of all production code changes across Block. What used to take months now takes days. How we built it:
