Pope Leo compared the rise of AI to the story of the Tower of Babel.
This famous story of “human arrogance and pride” is more relevant than ever.
Rev. Robert Sirico just broke down how AI and transhumanism are threatening the very idea of what it means to be human:
The story of the Tower of Babel is “represented in the Book of Genesis as this story of human arrogance and pride.”
“It was their arrogance that they thought on their own they could achieve divinity.”
“And that’s what at least some people see to be the case with AI.”
“The whole notion of transhumanism, that somehow you can embed yourself in the machine,” is putting humanity on a dangerous trajectory, Rev. Sirico warned.
Suffering and limitation are integral to the human experience.
Yet transhumanism is based upon an assumption that “all weakness needs to be eliminated by a technological algorithm“.”
The clear and present danger here, he warned, is that this is a trajectory in which humanity is setting itself up to be dominated and overtaken by machines.
