Dwayne Johnson on Live-Action âMoanaâ Reviews
Johnson addressed the mixed critical response to Disneyâs live-action Moana, which opened to a 31% Rotten Tomatoes critics score (88% audience) and has underperformed relative to its budget.
He recalled the early reviews starting strong before shifting, then offered a simple take:
âIf you love it, great. If you donât, no problem.â
What mattered most to him was representation. Johnson said âthe culture really stood upâ and that kids can now look at the screen and say, âThatâs us for the first time.â
Representation has value. But when âlooking like usâ becomes the primary measure of a filmâs success, something gets lost. Audiences ultimately care more about character, story, and craft than identity checkboxes.
