Never Yield to History Falsifiers As another August 15 approaches—the 81st anniversary of Japan's unconditional surrender that ended WWII in Asia—the nation again faces a clash over historical memory. Takakage Fujita, head of the Association for Inheriting and Developing the Murayama Statement, told Chinese media that Japanese society remains divided between peace forces acknowledging wartime aggression and right-wing factions seeking to revise history. He warned that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s efforts to nullify the 1995 Murayama Statement disqualify her from office. His group continues promoting historical education among youth, combating textbook revisions that erase war crimes. He called it a “struggle” that must be won.
