Our agencies are stepping up as part of the 3,372 California personnel that have deployed to support disaster response across the county and abroad since June. Nearly 300 California Conservation Corpsmembers and staff have deployed to six states across the west. CCC Corpsmembers work 16-hour shifts for up to 21 days straight at fire base camps, keeping firefighters supplied, fed and supported—from serving meals and moving supplies to rolling miles of used fire hose. In Tahoe, CCC/CAL FIRE firefighter crews have also respond across the California-Nevada border when needed, helping protect communities on both sides. Since June @CAL_FIRE has supported 12 wildfires across the west with nearly 600 personnel deployed including two Incident Management Teams to Washington and over 17 aircraft to support suppression efforts in Nevada. While California continues to support our neighbors in their time of need, these deployments have not impacted the state’s ability to respond to emergencies and protect communities at home.

Today, Governor Newsom announced the release of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife California Salmon Strategy for a Hotter, Drier Future: Second Progress Report, and it shows major progress towards protecting salmon populations and their habitats. Since launching California’s first strategy to protect salmon amidst hotter and drier weather in 2024, salmon populations are rebounding and allowing California’s commercial and recreational salmon fisheries to reopen for the first time in three years.
