Scientists at the Kunming Institute of Botany CAS bred the fungus with a space-traveled strain, producing an eighth-generation variety that is crisp, tasty, nearly spore-free and ready to harvest within 15 to 20 days. Once an online curiosity, the "apple mushroom" is now taking its first steps toward commercial production.
