June 1, 1933: The "Fund of German Trade and Industry" is created, a huge slush fund administered by Martin Bormann in the Führer's name. The regime used the funds to compensate SA Stormtroopers who committed street violence, subsize the SS, and enrich Nazi party officials.

Nearly 100 House Dems just filed papers calling on the judge to throw out the lawsuit that's the basis for Trump's "settlement" creating his new slush fund, arguing that DOJ is colluding with Trump to iunlawfully circumvent Congress:

To be clear: Trump didn’t “settle” with the IRS. He controls the IRS and DOJ He’s stealing $1.8 billion from taxpayers and laundering it to his political allies with no actual oversight. This is a heist.

The way the Judgment Fund is being used for the Trump “settlement” creates a profound loophole in the Appropriations Clause, allowing an administration to fund any program it wants without an appropriation. Sort of thing the Court needs to stop.

SSA is telling a court that the DOGE team members at the agency are gone, and it's not going to bring any DOGE back (even though Trump's executive order established DOGE teams at agencies until July). It's seeking to dismiss a lawsuit over the access DOGE had to its data.

The voluntary dismissal filed this morning is three pages long. No detail about the reported $1.776 billion settlement with Jan 6 rioters and convicted fraudsters. The filing does contain this sentence: "Upon the filing of this Notice, no judicial analysis is appropriate." That sentence is the entire operation. Judge Williams had set a May 20 deadline to examine whether the parties were genuinely adversarial in a lawsuit where the plaintiff controls the defendant's boss. Trump's team filed a self-executing dismissal 48 hours before that examination and argued the filing itself strips the court of jurisdiction to conduct it. The 93 members of Congress filing to oppose this argue the maneuver is constitutionally impermissible: a settlement "intended to avoid the Court's scrutiny" would contravene DOJ's settlement authority and the Constitution. The race to May 20 was won. The constitutional question was not dismissed with it.
