Analyst Comment: The message in question was likely delivered yesterday, when Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Beijing to meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. While the Iranian release on the matter was rather ambiguous, stating that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s April, 2026 ‘4 points for peace’ were stressed, it’s highly likely that they also discussed any proposition from Saudi Arabia and the wider conflict, as last week, China expressed a willingness to act as a neutral party in peace efforts in the region, following escalation in Yemen. However, in the past China has expressed its willingness to act as a mediator, going as far as to send an envoy to the region earlier in the war. It should be noted that such efforts came to nil, as China has historically held the escalating conflict at arm’s length since the inception of escalation with the Hamas attack on Israel.

Increased ISR is directly attributable to ongoing sea trials of the new Khabarovsk-class/Project 09851 nuclear submarine in the same area and other ongoing Russian naval maneuvers, as NATO Allied Joint Force Command highlighted the new submarine’s activities earlier today.

However, both sides, that being Lebanese Hezbollah (LH) and Israel continue to conduct reciprocal strikes in the midst of such agreements and it remains to be seen if the ultimate goal, the disarmament of LH, can be realized.

As we have yet to hear of a presser afterwards and considering the many issues currently on the table, don’t expect these talks to be snappy and quick. There’s much to be hashed out now. As seen with past meeting with principal-decision-makers, one indicator that not much was gained could be a quick meeting with no presser afterwards.
