The number of UC applicants reporting a perfect 4.0 GPA has roughly doubled over the past decade
Critics and some teachers point to softer grading standards, pressure on teachers to avoid failing students, and the disruption caused by COVID-era schooling as contributing factors
These are the consequences of prioritizing politics and everything else over actual learning. Are we actually educating students anymore, or just lowering the bar so everyone can feel successful?

Alma Patricia Contreras Villafana is accused of repeatedly claiming to be a U.S. citizen on employment paperwork
Federal prosecutors say she had already been ordered removed from the United States in 2003 but didn't do it
The indictment alleges that her employment from 1996 through 2026 resulted in more than $1.4 million in wages
She now faces eight federal counts, including wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, use of a fraudulent naturalization document and falsely claiming US citizenship

A night out in New York ended in tragedy for two 24 year olds after they were struck by a subway train at Manhattan’s Spring Street station.
Malaika Chitre and Navam Kaul, both Rutgers graduates, somehow ended up on the tracks around 3:15am
According to police the two had been seen hugging and kissing on the platform before that
Investigators believe Kaul may have lost his balance and fallen onto the tracks hitting his head and Chitre then appeared to have gone down trying to help him
The train operator saw them and attempted to stop but there wasn't enough distance. About 100 passengers were evacuated from the train.
