One thing COVID taught me about marriage was you can have a small wedding and still have a big beginning
We got married during COVID
No huge crowd
No elaborate reception
No fancy wedding car
In fact, we used my husband’s friend’s Corolla😂
We had food for about 50 people, and after the wedding Mass, the rain came heavily
If you saw our wedding day, you probably wouldn't think, “Wow, they must have spent a fortune.”
But six years later, I’ve realized that the wedding wasn't the important part. What we were building was.
A beautiful wedding lasts a day but marriage gives you thousands of ordinary days to figure each other out.
So if you're preparing for marriage, spend less time asking: “How do we make our wedding perfect?”
And more time asking: “How do we make our marriage healthy?”
Can we communicate when we're angry?
Can we disagree without disrespecting each other?
Can we still be kind to each other when life isn't kind to us?
Because those are the things nobody sees in your wedding pictures
But they are the things that will matter long after the pictures are posted
Young married people, what's one thing you wish you had prepared for before your wedding?
I'd genuinely love to learn from you.
