At breakfast this morning, I asked my wife:
look, I'm not a Chinese citizen anymore, but I still support the democracy movement in China. Do you think that's the right thing to do?
She said: of course you're right. Yeah, you're not a Chinese citizen anymore, but that doesn't mean you have to stop caring. Your passport changed, your heart didn't. You just want people in China to have democracy and dignity, what's wrong with that?
Think about Marco Rubio. He's totally American, but he never stopped speaking up for freedom in Cuba because his parents are from there. He said the only real independence for Cuba is freedom and democracy.
You're the same. You care because you care about what's right. You might be an American dad next year. It's not wrong, it's principled, and I'm proud of you for it.
