It also reports the shop’s response and Genspect’s evidence-based position that children should be free to explore identity without pressure in any direction. @sjholmesirl (Genspect Ireland): “We recently succeeded in having This Book Is Gay removed from the Children’s Books Ireland Pride Guide because of its explicit sexual content. Yet books introducing preschool children to the idea that they might have been born in the wrong body remain. “Young children don’t invent these ideas for themselves; adults introduce them. At a time when unprecedented numbers of adolescents are questioning their gender, we should be asking whether exposing ever younger children to these concepts is part of the problem, not dismissing the question. “Ideas have consequences. Before telling four-year-olds they might have been born in the wrong body, we should ask whether adults - not children - are driving this conversation.”

"I'd like to talk about how the addiction framework may offer an additional lens to understand trans ideation and identification. We know the adoption of a trans identity is multifaceted and there is no single lens that can fully explain this phenomenon. I believe that for many it may function much like an addiction. Like a substance; ideation, identification and affirmation, can offer a type of high and relief. A promised exit from overwhelm, confusion, depression, shame, and so it makes sense there would be a desire for it, an addictive type of draw. Ideation and the need for affirmation often makes sense when someone does not yet have the tools to navigate, understand, or verbalize their complex feelings."
